You, Facebook, and the World Wide Web

Here it comes! Facebook will open up content to the masses. Your news, your comments, your content... Out there on the web for all to see or search. Potentially. The NY Times recently commented on the topic, and there will be ways to limit what's exposed, but the honus is on the user to manage permissions. So, check your privacy settings or someone could be checking you out.

  1. I am curious. It seems like about half of the people I know on facebook limit their profiles and information to friends only, while the other half are open books.

I personally limit certain things like some games I am playing and certain news items, but mostly to avoid bothering those friends of mine who really aren't the best of friends, but rather acquaintences.

What specific information does someone put on their facebook profile that they wouldn't want a stranger to know?

  2. Seems to me the little, random comments that show up on the wall, that could be taken out of context... Those might be the things that could irk folks if they showed up in a search. Time will tell!
